Surge for water

December 2023

Ahmed and Hisham A Sultan attended the “Design, Dine, make a Difference” Gala Dinner, organised by SURGE FOR WATER in Dubai. This event aimed to connect the Architecture and Design community and raise funds for sustainable charity projects in Uganda, Haiti, Indonesia, and the Philippines. During the dinner, the idea of donating for a well in Uganda was discussed, and within few months, it became a reality.

January-March 2024

SURGE FOR WATER identified the Kalaki District in Northen Uganda as target area, and selected Osudo Primary School as the precise location for the well. In February 2024, the drilling operations commenced, and by March the well was officially opened and fully operational.

Now, Osudo Primary School, which serves 2,346 people, including students and their families, has access to safe water, fostering a healthier and safer daily life for the entire community.

Osudo Primary School – Kalaki District, Uganda

BEFORE

Osudo Primary School, home to 924 students, relied on a rainwater harvesting system installed on the school grounds.
However, this system frequently experienced shortages due to the seasonal nature of rainfall. When the tank ran dry, students and their families had to walk over 2 kilometers to collect water from the Osudo Community borehole located in the nearby trading center.

AFTER

Through collaboration with school leadership and the community, POPOW Organisation successfully drilled a new well, supported by SURGE FOR WATER and FINASI. Today, the school and the surrounding community have access to safe water, providing them with a healthier environment and a brighter future.

FINASI celebrates the new well with the school, the community, the local partner POPOW, and SURGE FOR WATER.

This amazing project is the first step of a long-term commitment that FINASI undertakes as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility actions.
